Our Way After The Trip -What is Amby Life-

Hi. Yuta writing.

My travel finished (3 months in Philippines and Thailand by myself and Australia and NZ with my family) and came back to Japan in the end of 2017.

This time I would like to write briefly about our desired future image after my trip.

Why we traveled??

I wrote our purpose of the trip about a year ago (our plan).

Here is the summary;

1. To confirm what we would like to do (Amby Life) is really the thing we would like to do

2. To meet with people who have the same values

3. To understand current situation of other countries

4. To reconsider my value by living in foreign countries and meet various people

5. To learn permaculture

6. To visit Australia where permaculture started

7. To visit “best permaculture garden” in NZ

8. To spend time with my family

9. To experience various things

10. To broaden my choice (such as way of life and place

What is Amby Life??

If you read the sentences above carefully, you might questioned about one of our purposes.

1. To confirm what we would like to do (Amby Life) is really the thing we would like to do

What is Amby Life?? ww

We are using Amby Life as a title of this blog.,

I haven’t explained about this but of course there is a meaning.

What is Amby Life??

Life in good amby (meaning good balance in Japanese)

The reason why we named this is;

we wish our world be peaceful

Then we thought, what is the ideal situation of peacefulness?

Hard to conclude but we came up with an idea of

both human and nature are “happy”

as we put it as our subtitle of our blog.

To be more specific, human is a part of nature and destroying nature beyond necessity is like cutting your own throat.

Therefore, we should keep in mind that  nature be sustainable.

This is “happy” for nature.

If human appreciate emotional satisfaction rather than material wealth, happiness is infinite.

This is “happy” for human.

We think world will be peaceful, if these two are in good balance (amby).

However, reality is..

・Destruction of nature is progressing by urbanization.

-> The ecosystem is affected by the destruction.

・Capitalism is widespread and competition is accelerating.

-> People are stressed.

-> Lack of communication among family. (“Competition” become the top priority and might alienated from human nature. )

・Seeking too much convenience.

-> In the back of “convenience”, there are people who work hard in order to meet the demands. Excess demands make those people feel exhausted.

-> Convenience is higher priority than nature. Human cannot live without nature..

・Why human always afraid of something, although they are able to do lots of things.

->A funny story, in a sense.

I think positive tension and competition is necessary.

However, if those are exceeded and start to harm others (not only human), I do not feel comfortable.

On the other hand, nature is the professional of keeping good balance (amby).

In forest without human intrusion, there are a lot of biodiversity.

Not one kind dominates the place.

The higher on the food chain, the fewer the number of organisms. Always in good balance.

No matter how many great scientists and economists gathered, I think it is hard to understand this very complicated and exquisite mechanism.

Well, I wrote too much but as I mentioned above, we named Amby Life because we think good balance  is important.

And,we would like to send information by our actual practice of “Amby Life”.

Also there is a meaning with Logo mark.

What is the achievement of the trip??

Ok now, review of the trip.

1. To confirm what we would like to do (Amby Life) is really the thing we would like to do

-> We still do not know whether the Amby Life way of thinking is good in the world. However, by discussing with people during the trip and of course with my wife, we decided to continue seeking Amby Life. (If we come up with better idea, we might change our mind easily though..ww)

2. To meet with people who have the same values

-> We could make connections with those people. I am sure that those connections are very important if we wish world peace! 1

3. To understand current situation of other countries

-> We heard many stories from various people but it seems how they feel depends on how they think. Although in a same environment, opinion differs from person to person.

4. To reconsider my value by living in foreign countries and meet various people

-> Since we went to foreign countries as travelers not as tourists, we could experienced local lifestyle and culture.

The word below made a deep impression.

“This is a real life.”Word of Mr.Sandot, who lives in the mountain in Thailand

“Life is to enjoy.”

“Not yesterday or tomorrow. Live today!”

5. To learn permaculture

-> Completed Permaculture Design Course in Thailand

6. To visit Australia where permaculture started

-> We went various farms and met lots of interesting people!

7. To visit “best permaculture garden” in NZ

-> Rainbow valley farm was the place but unfortunately, it was already closed.

8. To spend time with my family

->Almost one year has passed since I left on a trip. Spending time with my family is now normal thing for me. I am enjoying to see our kids’ growth.

9. To experience various things

-> Experienced lots of things, as went hospital (only Yuta), suitcase splitted, drove camper van etc…

10. To broaden my choice (such as way of life and place

->Place to live was one of the biggest theme before heading to the trip.

We were thinking seriously about moving in to NZ as we actually went immigration seminars held in Japan and also asked about getting visa using Skype consultation.

However, they told us that they never dealt with our cases (live in countryside making permaculture garden and start B&B kind of lifestyle) and it might be very difficult to get permanent resident visa.

But surprisingly, we went to Australia and NZ and people suggested us “I will give you my farm after I died so why don’t you try farming together?” “I am looking for a farm manager. Are you interested in doing it?”. I strongly felt that gathering information is important but taking action is far more important.

Then, what are you going to do??

There were chances to live abroad.

However, especially in Australia and NZ, I thought “permaculture is widespread and there is a culture to accept diversity.” ‘it seems Japan is much far from happy of both human and nature than those countries.” “I want to try this challenge in my home country.”

Therefore, I decided to live in Japan surrounded by nature!!

We will try our way of Amby Life and will report those through the blog!!

I wrote a bit too much..

I think not many people read this till this sentence. ww

Thank you very much!!

We would appreciate your continued cooperation.
